Amur falcons, small birds of prey of the falcon family, have been spotted stopping by in Kerala’s Malampuzha dam.
The bird breeds in south-eastern Siberia and Northern China before migrating in large flocks across India and over the Arabian Sea to winter in Southern Africa. In India, its stopover was usually at Kolhapur in Maharashtra state, according to The Hindu’s K.A. Shaji who cites birder S. Namasivayam.
For the past one week, they have been arriving in small groups at the southern edges of the Malampuzha reservoir, presumably for a stopover, The Hindu reports.
