Nine Elephants to Start Road Trip to Corbett Tiger Reserve

Nine captive elephants from Karnataka will next week start a 2,400 km road trip to the northern Indian state of Uttarkhand, where they will be deployed on patrol duty in and around the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

The jumbo despatch marks the culmination of a request made by Uttarakhand government to Karnataka two years ago, according to The Hindu newspaper.

Initially, 11 elephants were selected, but two of them were withheld on health  grounds.
