One of my first interactions with wildlife is tied to this place. Hence, my first suggestion on this `VISIT’ page to wildlife enthusiasts is to drop by at the Madras Crocodile Bank!

Do make it on a Sunday, if possible. For, The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology, one of the largest reptile zoos in the world, offers visitors the opportunity to feed crocodiles every Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The Bank is also home to many reptiles (my partner and I saw our first albino cobra here) and amphibians. It is reachable by the East Coast Road en route to Mahabalipuram from Chennai (previously known as Madras).
