Corbett Tiger Reserve’s Chief Replaced After Shoot-at-Sight Order

The government in the hill state of Uttarakhand removed the director of Corbett Tiger Reserve, within days after he ordered armed poachers to be shot at sight, Press Trust of India reported.

The government’s move, however, raises questions over the government’s resolve to combat poaching.

PTI reported: “Uttrakhand’s Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy said that Parag Madhukar Dhakate has been replaced by Dheeraj Pandey as Director. D V S Khati, the Chief Wildlife Warden, said that Dhakate was not authorised to issue any such order.”
