India 2015 Tiger Death Count Touches 52, With Incidents Reported From Assam, Kerala & Karnataka


Tiger deaths were reported from Assam’s Kaziranga, Kerala’s Wayanad and Karnataka’s Nagarhole in Oct.

The last incident was reported on Oct. 30, taking the total tiger fatalities this year to 52, or 1 tiger death every 5.8 days, according to National Tiger Conservation Authority data.

The total number of tigers (>1.5 years of age) estimated in India in 2014 was 2,226, according to NTCA data published early this year. Tiger numbers in India have risen from an est. 1,411 in 2006 and 1,706 estimated in 2010.
